5. Dr. Rachel Mitchell and How to Help Teens with Mood Disorders

Season #1

Today, you'll hear from my colleague and friend Dr. Rachel Mitchell, a researcher and youth psychiatrist who works with teens and young adults with mood disorders.

I wanted to have her on the show because she is so passionate about her work and she is really uniquely positioned in that she has so much experience with complex, layered situations and the tricky dynamics that can arise between teens and parents.

In this interview, we talk about

  1. what needs to come together and what gets in the way in her work with teens and young adults with treatment-resistant mood disorders
  2. Why lifestyle interventions (including addressing sleep issues) are foundational in addressing mood disorders
  3. How to support a teen who is not yet ready for change and the approach that works best in helping them move towards being ready
